How to get free sponsorship worth $1000s to promote your business
How we got organised We typed up a sign-up sheet so people could quickly and easily write down their name and email addresses. (see pic below). Sponsor names and logos went across the top, giving them free advertising to over 5000 targeted potential customers. Prize pool went next, to show people what they might win for signing up. Then spaces to write their names and emails and so on... We photocopied 100 of these sheets.
How we did our first promotion The next week, we went out to the university on the first day of semester, and lounged around near the main lunch area at lunch time. We were just a couple of dudes in shirt and shorts, in the steaming North Australia tropical heat, with a pile of photocopied sign-up sheets and a few pens... Totally unprofessional ! And as people walked past, we said... "Hey, do you want free drinks?" They'd go... "What?" "Do you want free drinks at the hottest clubs in town? We set up parties and events, and we get free stuff from the clubs. We give that away to people on our database. We've got $6,400 worth of stuff to give away to people on our database this weekend. Here, join our database so you can get this stuff..." And we'd give them a pen, they'd write down their details, and away they'd go.
Here's a scan of one of the sign-up sheets from that day...
We also asked each person to tick off which of the local entertainment venues they were interested in going to this year. (That's the tiny little boxes and text under each hand-written email address in the picture above). Later, we worked out how many people overall went to each venue in town. In a future sales pitch to those businesses, we were able to tell them exactly how many customers they could expect to receive from us, if they used our business to advertise.
Result We got 200 new potential customers on our database after 4 hours on day 1. Another 200 over the next few days. So we had 400 potential customers on our database.
We sent them all an email telling them more about our business, advertising our sponsor venues as we had promised, and giving away all the free stuff our sponsors gave us. Some of our new people on our database received the free dinner, free beers at the #1 club, and so on. And, we managed to send 100 customers into the #1 club in town all at once, at a time when usually they have zero customers in there, providing that manager with the crowd he needed at a time he normally had no customers. So our major sponsor was very happy too.
Next, find out how we took this process to the next level. I'll show you how we set up the 2nd bigger promotion - and again received $1000s in free sponsorship to sign up another 2,200 people to our database in just 2 days...
